{"id":1878,"date":"2014-07-02T15:14:46","date_gmt":"2014-07-02T20:14:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/roseledgebooks.com\/blog\/?p=1878"},"modified":"2014-07-03T10:49:11","modified_gmt":"2014-07-03T15:49:11","slug":"high-summer-is-nigh","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/roseledgebooks.com\/blog\/?p=1878","title":{"rendered":"HIGH SUMMER IS NIGH"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>UPDATE<\/strong> regarding Cod End:\u00a0 <strong>Cod End has not been sold<\/strong>, but negotiations continue.\u00a0 Summer plans remain a guess.\u00a0 Once again I am reminded that truth is in the sources, and sources who are &#8220;pretty sure&#8221; are not sure enough.\u00a0 This time I am VERY sure because,\u00a0 though not a principal, relative or realtor, my latest source is hugely attuned to local nuance which, of course, I and others from away can never be.\u00a0 All the Deed Transfers, Court Happenings, and Obituaries in the <strong>Courier Gazette<\/strong> are just after-the-facts news.\u00a0 Good to know, but already old.\u00a0 Sigh.<\/p>\n<p>Another tent event played out on the lawn of the East Wind Inn last weekend, this time a four-point (2 tents, 2 points each) party in the afternoon with no music that carried.\u00a0 EWI lawn parties are<strong> always good news<\/strong> because then people come within daylight sight of RB!\u00a0 Eleven cars in a row (11!) drove up Sea Street to Roseledge &#8212; I got all hopeful &#8212; and turned around in the driveway to park out of my sight and nearer the EWI at the Sea Street\/Mechanic Street convergence.\u00a0 Apparently no one noticed the RB sign &#8212; with hours from 2-6 &#8212; on the tree at the corner.\u00a0 Check the webcam for EWI updates.<\/p>\n<p>[pe2-image src=&#8221;http:\/\/lh5.ggpht.com\/-Ny4BSIavwhI\/TVH5YcJquFI\/AAAAAAAAC4Q\/wpyg_P-QPHw\/s144-c-o\/IMG_0220.jpg&#8221; href=&#8221;https:\/\/picasaweb.google.com\/111061230789680767628\/RoseledgeBlog#5571508412302932050&#8243; caption=&#8221;I wish lobster boats and sailboats shared the inner harbor moorings. &#8221; type=&#8221;image&#8221; alt=&#8221;IMG_0220.jpg&#8221; ]<\/p>\n<p>But-<strong>&#8211; good news<\/strong> &#8212; boaters moored at the TH Boatyard (further up the Sea Street hill, behind the trees to the left on the webcam) did come and reminded me that I need a RB sign that grabs them on their way DOWN the hill.\u00a0 Maybe a giant hook that reaches out or a flashing neon rose.\u00a0 I thought about having BOOKS shingled into the lower roof, but the roof audience is the dozen or so moorings in front of RB &#8212; check webcam &#8212; which are now filled with lobster boats instead of visiting sailboats with readers.\u00a0 Cod End&#8217;s sale &#8211;if and when&#8211; may change that back to the moored sailboats of a few years ago. \u00a0 Boat people who read and are on vacation may be my favorite RB visitors.\u00a0 They have time off the water to walk by, then in, to browse thoroughly with questions, reactions, suggestions, and always to find something &#8212; sometimes about the North Atlantic or sailing, voyages, e.g.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Farley Mowat&#8217;s,\u00a0 Otherwise<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Lawrence Bergreen&#8217;s.\u00a0 Over the Edge of the World <\/strong>(Magellan)<br \/>\n<strong>Robert Finch&#8217;s, Iambics of Newfoundland\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Robert Whitaker&#8217;s, The Mapmaker\u2019s Wife\u00a0 <\/strong>(South America) \u00a0<strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>James Acheson&#8217;s,\u00a0\u00a0 Lobster Gangs of Maine\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Arnold Skolnick&#8217;s and Carl Little&#8217;s\u00a0 Paintings of Maine. \u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>[pe2-image src=&#8221;http:\/\/lh3.ggpht.com\/-P1ONYQG0ZsA\/TVH5yeM8rCI\/AAAAAAAAC6Q\/h_onp8l4oe8\/s144-c-o\/IMG_1814.jpg&#8221; href=&#8221;https:\/\/picasaweb.google.com\/111061230789680767628\/RoseledgeBlog#5571508859530161186&#8243; caption=&#8221;Books need time only real readers have.
