{"id":2712,"date":"2021-09-18T14:34:32","date_gmt":"2021-09-18T21:34:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/roseledgebooks.com\/blog\/?p=2712"},"modified":"2021-10-06T17:49:05","modified_gmt":"2021-10-07T00:49:05","slug":"good-time-minutes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/roseledgebooks.com\/blog\/?p=2712","title":{"rendered":"GOOD TIME MINUTES"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>MINUTES OF THE POETRY CLUB, September 15, 2021<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Intrepid Convener Gary, as always, set our task: to write two Limmericks [sic] in the style of Gary.\u00a0 I amended the task.\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Limerick 1: <\/span><b>\u00a0AND NOW, SO DO I.<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There once was a bird artist named Edward Lear,\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">whose poems of\u00a0 5 lines were both pithy and clear.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A limerick, it is, he said with panache.\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Add witty and bawdy, agreed Ogden Nash.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But Gary wants more &#8212; 4 couplets, 8 lines,\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">to capture his many cavorters\u2019\u00a0 entwines.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Then comes to mind\u00a0 dad, who loved\u00a0 Nash\u2019s stuff,\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and thought 5 true lines were poetry enough.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And, now, so do I.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;<\/p>\n<p><b>Discussion:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0 I quite liked my own effort, especially finding out that Edward Lear was a bird artist, and, I thought, cleverly arguing for the traditional format which I then used in my second limerick, but no comments and only very modest applause followed.<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_2716\" style=\"width: 610px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2716\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-2716\" src=\"http:\/\/roseledgebooks.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/IMG_20210812_110116947-600x450.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" srcset=\"http:\/\/roseledgebooks.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/IMG_20210812_110116947-600x450.jpg 600w, http:\/\/roseledgebooks.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/IMG_20210812_110116947-420x315.jpg 420w, http:\/\/roseledgebooks.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/IMG_20210812_110116947-768x576.jpg 768w, http:\/\/roseledgebooks.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/IMG_20210812_110116947-1024x768.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-2716\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">A surprise blueberry &#8212; colorful, maybe tasty, wrinkled, lovely.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">LIMERICK 2:\u00a0 <\/span><b>YOU GOTTA HAVE HEART<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0We of the Landmark, an unruly lot, may not act with amazing grace.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But our lobby bobby is up to the task of helping us save our own face.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He\u2019s a \u00a0 mixer, a fixer,\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 a toni<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">c, an elixir,<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A man for all seasons, a man for all reasons is Devin, the heart of our place.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;-\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Discussion<\/strong>:\u00a0 Frankly, I thought this one bordered on <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">excellent,<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> but\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 Steve noted,\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cYou should have titled it, \u201cOde to Devin.\u201d\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 I\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">pointed out, \u201dDevin\u2019s not dead.\u201d\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Steve: \u201cYou don\u2019t have to be dead to have an ode.\u00a0 Dee [another Poetry Club regular] titled her poem to her dead friend, \u201cIn Memoriam.\u201d\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Moi: She retitled it when her friend died, and she didn\u2019t call it an \u201code\u201d when her friend was alive.
