{"id":2805,"date":"2022-08-12T12:57:43","date_gmt":"2022-08-12T19:57:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/roseledgebooks.com\/blog\/?p=2805"},"modified":"2022-08-14T12:23:17","modified_gmt":"2022-08-14T19:23:17","slug":"a-little-excitement","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/roseledgebooks.com\/blog\/?p=2805","title":{"rendered":"A LITTLE EXCITEMENT"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">\n<div class=\"gmail_quote\">\n<div dir=\"ltr\">\n<div><em><strong>A little excitement here.<\/strong>\u00a0 Charlie tells the tale<\/em>, [and I edit.]<\/div>\n<div>\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026<\/div>\n<div><em>We were just walking down the street and I recognized the reporter who fortunately was from a station we watch.\u00a0 He asked if we&#8217;d like to be interviewed and it took about 2 nanoseconds for mom to say &#8220;yes!&#8221;<\/em> <em>(I declined and went into the Starbucks to get our lattes)<\/em>.\u00a0<em> She immediately started telling them how to do their jobs: &#8220;be sure to get my good side, don&#8217;t show the bald spot, &#8230;&#8221;.<\/em><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>.<\/div>\n<div>.<\/div>\n<div class=\"gmail_quote\">\n<div dir=\"ltr\">\n<div>[Okay, I did ask them to avoid my bald spot, but ONLY because it looked rashy after 3 hats \u2013 bucket baseball, and party hat with chin strap \u2013blew away and left my head exposed to intense beach-sun.\u00a0 But I did not DIRECT anything, for heaven\u2019s sake.\u00a0 I just gently reframed a question about \u201cCOVID thoughts\u201d by relating my answer to the 24th Ave Pier, which is wonderful, new, and open to all through all of COVID.<\/div>\n<div>.<\/div>\n<div>.<\/div>\n<div><strong>This led to a mention of what to do about the pressing issue of Albert [the junker] from Homer, Alaska,<\/strong> who now hugs the Pier and is an eyesore.\u00a0 Later I found out that Albert was once an Icelandic Coast Guard warrior who fought bravely against sea-grasping\u00a0 England in\u00a0 the Cod Wars. You go, Albert!\u00a0 \u00a0 Clearly, he needs to begone from the Pier and, if Homer isn&#8217;t missing him, maybe whoever lets him live by the Pier should arrange, instead, for Albert to become a seaside memorial made of his cut up metal pieces reformed as public art.\u00a0 I think the interview team saw the possibilities.<\/div>\n<div>.<\/div>\n<div>.<\/div>\n<div><strong>Only then, as the videographer gathered his gear did the interviewer mention that his colleague was from Maine<\/strong>.\u00a0 I had mentioned my 35 Roseledge summers, so the camera guy asked, \u201cWhere in Maine?\u201d\u00a0 When I said Tenants Harbor, he paused, looked a bit stunned, and said, \u2018\u201cI\u2019m from TH.\u00a0 My grandfather was caretaker for the Aldrich\u2019s.\u201d\u00a0 Thus we began the exchange of names that is the Maine way. \u00a0 I mentioned Tim\u2019s Gramp\u00a0 Dowling, caretaker for the Smiths, and Tim, the East Wind Inn, he added Cod End and the Millers, and that he had gone to school with Scott!\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 <strong>What are the chances?!!<\/strong> ]<\/div>\n<div>.<\/div>\n<div>.<\/div>\n<div><em>When I came out the filming was done but the Roseledge stories had started\u00a0(everything leads to Roseledge stories eventually).\u00a0 <\/em>\u00a0[I detect a bit of snark.]<\/div>\n<div>\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><em><strong>The next morning at breakfast<\/strong>, I thought maybe one or two of my fellow oldies-but- goodies would have seen last evening\u2019s early local news, so I put on my best humblebrag look and casually rolled in, but no one said anything.\u00a0 NOT ONE PERSON.\u00a0 Amy, concierge extraordinaire, had lured them all, ALL, into the Vitality Room \/ theater at 7p.m., local news time,\u00a0 to watch \u201cSteel Magnolias.\u201d <strong>AARGH!\u00a0<\/strong><\/em><\/div>\n<div>.<\/div>\n<div><em>Fortunately, so you don\u2019t have to miss out, Charlie, best son ever, has rescued a bit.\u00a0 Please note that my eyes are open in this screenshot.
