Artists are everywhere around, too.  Maybe it\u2019s something in the air or the light or the water or the spare, but finest-kind, [sic] lifestyle or the eyes of willing beholders, or something else, but art is part of everyday life in Tenants Harbor.  Okay, and Greater St. George, too.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"javascript:void(0)\" id=\"file-link-38\" title=\"img_0956.JPG\" class=\"file-link image\">  \t\t\t<\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/roseledgebooks.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/02\/img_0956.JPG\" title=\"img_0956.JPG\" rel=\"lightbox[61]\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/roseledgebooks.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/02\/img_0956.JPG\" alt=\"img_0956.JPG\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<strong>Figure #9.  Lobster buoys, yes.  But also a hooked rug pattern?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>At the moment, here in Minnesota, I can think of two books that illustrate the point.  The first is <strong><em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/0892723475?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=therosbooblo-20&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=9325&amp;creativeASIN=0892723475\">Monhegan, the Artists&#8217; Island<\/a><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.assoc-amazon.com\/e\/ir?t=therosbooblo-20&amp;l=as2&amp;o=1&amp;a=0892723475\" style=\"border: medium none  ! important; margin: 0px ! important\" border=\"0\" height=\"1\" width=\"1\" \/>,<\/em><\/strong> edited by Will and Jane Curtis.  Greater St. George includes Monhegan because the ferry leaves from Port Clyde.  Monhegan is an artists\u2019 island because a lot of artists have and do live there.  It is a wonderful place where people sit on the rocks and paint the water then move to the schoolhouse lawn and applaud the sunset.  <em>Monhegan, The Artists\u2019 Island<\/em> is a big, handsome book that tells the story of the Island with local art, usually paintings, used to make whatever points need making.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/roseledgebooks.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/03\/img_1822.JPG\" title=\"img_1822.JPG\" rel=\"lightbox[61]\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/roseledgebooks.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/03\/img_1822.JPG\" alt=\"img_1822.JPG\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<strong>Figure #10.  Marshall Point Rocks and Wildflowers, yes.  But also a Shetland gray wool sweater with a spiky gold\/green border and sea blue neck ribbing?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The other book with everyday art is publisher David Godine\u2019s edition of <em><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/156792140X?ie=UTF8&#038;tag=therosbooblo-20&#038;linkCode=as2&#038;camp=1789&#038;creative=9325&#038;creativeASIN=156792140X\">The Country of the Pointed Firs<\/a><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.assoc-amazon.com\/e\/ir?t=therosbooblo-20&#038;l=as2&#038;o=1&#038;a=156792140X\" width=\"1\" height=\"1\" border=\"0\" alt=\"\" style=\"border:none !important; margin:0px !important;\" \/><\/strong><\/em>, with black and white drawings by Douglas Alvord.  I know a Mainer who is sure he knows the people in the drawings.
