But that wasn\u2019t what I meant either.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"img_0961.JPG\" href=\"http:\/\/roseledgebooks.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/02\/img_0961.JPG\" rel=\"lightbox[65]\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/roseledgebooks.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/02\/img_0961.JPG\" alt=\"img_0961.JPG\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Fig. #15.  The tide is a favorite &#8220;returni<\/strong><strong>ng character\u201d and so are the ribs of the (ship) \u201cwrecks\u201d that show at low tide. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Instead \u201creturning characters\u201d refers to the main characters in favorite series, two of which have just reappeared in a latest paperback edition.<\/p>\n<p>I just finished and really liked <strong>Peter Spiegelman\u2019s <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/1400097045?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=therosbooblo-20&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=9325&amp;creativeASIN=1400097045\">Red Cat<\/a><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"border: medium none  ! important; margin: 0px ! important\" src=\"http:\/\/www.assoc-amazon.com\/e\/ir?t=therosbooblo-20&amp;l=as2&amp;o=1&amp;a=1400097045\" border=\"0\" alt=\"\" width=\"1\" height=\"1\" \/><\/em><\/strong><em>,<\/em> the latest John March paperback mystery.  I like John March.  I like his decisions, dialogue, NYC detail, and I like author Spiegelman\u2019s continuing background of family, finance, friendships, maybe especially finance.  Since Paul Erdman died, I\u2019ve had no one so able to teach me about finance through fiction, and learning about money is part of knowing how the world works &#8212; my most major reading goal.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m reading <strong>Lee Child\u2019s <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/0440243661?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=therosbooblo-20&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=9325&amp;creativeASIN=0440243661\">Bad Luck and Trouble<\/a><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"border: medium none  ! important; margin: 0px ! important\" src=\"http:\/\/www.assoc-amazon.com\/e\/ir?t=therosbooblo-20&amp;l=as2&amp;o=1&amp;a=0440243661\" border=\"0\" alt=\"\" width=\"1\" height=\"1\" \/><\/em><\/strong> very slowly.  Jack Reacher may be my favorite returning character, and I don\u2019t want it to end too soon.  I love working through his decisions with him, and I love learning a million details about whatever is the featured place of that adventure.  This time it\u2019s a group effort set (so far) in Los Angeles.<\/p>\n<p>But I just couldn\u2019t stay interested in the Richard Jury crowd in <strong>Martha Grimes\u2019 <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/0451222660?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=therosbooblo-20&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=9325&amp;creativeASIN=0451222660\">Dust<\/a><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"border: medium none  ! important; margin: 0px ! important\" src=\"http:\/\/www.assoc-amazon.com\/e\/ir?t=therosbooblo-20&amp;l=as2&amp;o=1&amp;a=0451222660\" border=\"0\" alt=\"\" width=\"1\" height=\"1\" \/><\/em><\/strong><em>,<\/em> though I have liked them until now.  And Millie and Kathy both thought <strong>Tony Hillerman\u2019s <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/0060563478?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=therosbooblo-20&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=9325&amp;creativeASIN=0060563478\">The Shape Shifter<\/a><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"border:none !important; margin:0px !important;\" src=\"http:\/\/www.assoc-amazon.com\/e\/ir?t=therosbooblo-20&amp;l=as2&amp;o=1&amp;a=0060563478\" border=\"0\" alt=\"\" width=\"1\" height=\"1\" \/><\/em><\/strong>, his latest paperback with Jim Chee and Joe Leaphorn, was a little less.  So were the last two Stephanie Plum \u201cnumbers\u201d by Janet Evanovich.  I thought each needed one more escapade, and it\u2019s time to settle the Joe\/Ranger issue.  Do authors get bored with their characters after a while?  I think I remember John Sanford saying he did.  Do readers?
