(See webcam and refresh twice, even though, as Charlie pointed out, the horizon is tilting eastward.)\u00a0 Apparently the waiting is over or begun again.\u00a0 Maine weather is a changeable feast.<\/p>\n<p>More certain is Maine&#8217;s gift of time <a href=\"http:\/\/opinionator.blogs.nytimes.com\/2011\/06\/29\/argument-truth-and-the-social-side-of-reasoning\/?hp\">to think about things.\u00a0 Some think this is better done with others<\/a>, which may be an allusion to conversation or among the more vigorous, argument.\u00a0 But what if you love Maine&#8217;s gift of time to think about things <em>alone<\/em>?\u00a0 Hark!\u00a0 It&#8217;s another reason to visit RB and find the book-mind (or minds) with which to think about whatever matters most at the moment and probably lots of other things as you and the author meet &#8212; at the lighthouse.<\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 430px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/lh6.ggpht.com\/-IiZmkzPqciw\/TVH5hb4jVtI\/AAAAAAAAC5A\/G6mPn7Sv7yo\/IMG_0833.jpg\" rel=\"lightbox[759]\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/lh6.ggpht.com\/-IiZmkzPqciw\/TVH5hb4jVtI\/AAAAAAAAC5A\/G6mPn7Sv7yo\/h480\/IMG_0833.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_0833.jpg\" width=\"420\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Tide is out, boat&#39;s afloat.  Rocks extend, island nears.  I and book are here.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>I &#8220;met&#8221; and learned a lot about spies in China from <strong>Charles Cumming&#8217;s Typhoon<\/strong> which began in Hong Kong and ended in Shanghai This reminds me that very big huzzahs (cheers?) need to go to the Roseledge Books Regular who called to say he was eating breakfast in Shanghai and WEARING HIS ROSELEDGE BOOKS T-SHIRT!  I assured him the world was better for his effort and would be better still if he took a grand hike about town and exhibited his innate sandwich-board skills.\u00a0 The phone hummed in silence.\u00a0 RB is still waiting for two strangers to meet wearing RB t-shirts\u00a0 and thus affirm that good people connect through good books.\u00a0 How about that for thinking about things with others!<\/p>\n<p>Now I am reading <strong>Lee Vance&#8217;s<\/strong> finiller, <strong>Restitution,<\/strong> and though my finance-through-fiction efforts have waned since the death of<strong> Paul Erdman<\/strong>, Iancial thr trust former Goldman-Sachs director Vance&#8217;s Wall Street activities.  I hope <strong>Peter Spiegelman<\/strong> has a new story, sort-of-about the NYC family-owned bank adventures, out in paperback by next summer, too.<\/p>\n<p>First books of this summer&#8217;s big order have arrived which is good.\u00a0 Bad was failing to recommend <strong>Julia Spencer-Fleming<\/strong> to\u00a0 returning visitors &#8212; thus, RBR&#8217;s &#8212; who wanted another of an 80&#8217;s, mystery series, set mostly in NYC,  with a theater director and cop as detectives that we both knew but could not remember by author or title.\u00a0 Aarghhh!\u00a0 Think Episcopal Church instead of\u00a0 theater and the Clare Ferguson\/Russ VanAlstyne duo, and it could have been the start of a beautiful, multi-volume read.\u00a0 Maybe next summer&#8230;<\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 430px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/lh5.ggpht.com\/-RsgscDY5BIQ\/TVH6bkjJunI\/AAAAAAAAC9E\/AODK7WvEbcw\/IMG_4309.jpg\" rel=\"lightbox[759]\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/lh5.ggpht.com\/-RsgscDY5BIQ\/TVH6bkjJunI\/AAAAAAAAC9E\/AODK7WvEbcw\/h480\/IMG_4309.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_4309.jpg\" width=\"420\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">A collection of rocks, then books.
