I LOVE MINNEAPOLIS!
I am so proud to be from Minneapolis.
I have lived 50 of last nearly 60 years in SE Como, best neighborhood ever, after having a best-ever childhood in Wahpeton ND.
Then Trump’s Thugs invaded gentle Minneapolis, and the gentle bear rose up.
Bruce Springsteen nails it.
I am going to use Bruce Springsteen singing “The Streets of Minneapolis for my February Poetry Club choice of “reading”. Our theme is “love”. A choice doesn’t get more apt. Now I just need to have Charlie figure out how to get a YouTube video from his laptop to the big screen in the room where the Poetry Club meets.
YOU GO, MINNEAPOLIS!
I can’t march, roll, or ride with my Minneapolis friends (though I am there in vigorous spirit), but I can wear my knitted red hat, buy great bagels from Backyard Bagels, a small business here, who, with family ties there, is supporting small businesses in Minneapolis, and who, every Sunday, has a (nearby) Ballard Street Market stand, propitiously placed, so that it is almost unlikely I will run over the wagging tails of patiently waiting dogs. Free-range kids are another hazard altogether.

With red, knitted protest hat and support bagels in hand, I am one with the aroused bear.
So Charlie and I strolled and rolled, and mostly averted disasters, except for a few sidewalk gullies, bought some bagels, thanked the people in the booth, and went back home to enjoy the whole experience and follow the latest news of the community that is Minneapolis showing the world how it’s done.
And thanks, Vikings! With Sam Darland, Seahawks are World Series champs. CHEERS!
It has been an interesting time here in Minneapolis. I have been participating in the various gatherings–it takes me back to the Viet Nam war days. Although these days I wear a red hat and a bra. 🙂
Enjoy your bagels!

YES! So proud of Minneapolis. What an amazing example of organization, non-violence, and persistence. A model for the rest of the country in the ongoing resistance.
Colleen, great picture! I love the hat
My heart aches daily for Minneapolis too, Colleen. It’s all so incredibly sad and frightening and yet the people of our dear city give us hope. I hadn’t heard that song of
Springsteen – I wept! Love your red hat and MN winter look. Millie keeps me updated on you which I do appreciate. I told her recently the I got to know her ‘neighborhood group” through letters you wrote to her while we were both in Thailand. Then you all adopted me and eventually Duane which added immensely to my and then our lives. I am eternally grateful for your friendship and your home!! You spirit never ceases to amaze me! Love, Marjorie
